Brother FAX 565 - Fax / copier - B/W - 50 sheets - 9.6 Kbps - AC 110 V

Comment: The model 565 Brothers fax machine is still around in 2010 after being in stores for the past 4 or 5 years. I bought mine about 3 years ago and don't do a lot of faxes, but for my needs it works fine. It has a lot of features, I would never use, but you don't have to use them. I just send a few faxes most days and get a few. the cartridge lasts me a white, and the refills can be a pain to put in the machine, but you get better withi practice. My advice is read the manual that comes with the machine and skip the features you don't want and read the pages of the features you do want. I had to phone Brother customer service to find how to work something on the machine, and they were very hepful. so phone them if you get stuck.

My best advice, read the manual first. you mainly only have to set the time and date and your phone number on the menu which is displayed in a very small screen on the fax machines. its a nice looking machine, very compact and is fine for light fax needs.if you get a lot of faxes a day, it may not be the one for you. I have no complaints.

Comment: This machine is great for the home or office. It can handle any job from one or two faxes per day to multiple faxes per hour. Clear instructions and very easy to use for the novice or experienced office equipment person.

Comment: All I wanted was a simple plain paper fax machine to handle basic fax and copy functions for medical records, insurance papers etc. Instead, what I got was the most primitive, frustrating piece of technology ever developed by man. It is as if the designers purposefully built this machine to drive people mad? Is it possible that Brother designed this machine to exact revenge against America for WWII?

Have any of you ever seen the movie Office Space? There is a scene where the disgruntled workers kidnap the office fax machine, take it to a deserted field and give it the beat down with their feet and baseball bats. That is what is going to happen to this fax machine. It is the most frustrating POS I have ever seen. If you have a nemesis and/or mortal enemy, give them this fax machine as a gift, it is guaranteed to drive the recipient insane.

It is not as if I am some sort of Luddite, I have worked for many years in the high-tech arena but this thing always pulls the paper through sideways and it is virtually impossible to replace the "cartridge." In fact, the cartridge is actually some sort of scroll device that appears to have been developed in the Middle Ages.

Want to fax more than one page at a time--forget it. This machine is designed to eat your documents, that's right, it lives by gorging itself on your precious papers.

As for the copy function, well, if you baby-sit EVERY piece of paper that goes through the feeder you might get some crappy quality copies IF the feeder doesn't ingest your entire document.

I guess you get what you pay for and if you love frustration, hassle and poor quality then you will love this POS.

Comment: Machine is easy to set up; limited options but sufficient for my needs. However, though resolution can be adjusted for outgoing faxes (standard/fine/extra-fine), this is not possible for incoming faxes, and I find the 400x400 dot-matrix printout unreadable in many cases for work purposes (eg, trying to decipher phone numbers). Probably good if details are not essential, but if they are, get a machine with better print resolution.

Comment: I am really happy with this little fax machine, perfect for what I needed. I read other reviews before buying and was a little concerned about quality - not anymore. If you are looking for a high-volume fax then you should be looking at higher priced faxes. If you are looking for a home fax this is PERFECT. It is a wonderful size, easy to use, set up was so easy I thought I must have missed something. I think this is a real good buy!
