Print Top-Quality Photos and Documents Fast
The MFC-790CW prints both documents and photos at up to 6000 x 1200 dpi and can reach speeds of up to 33 ppm black and 27 ppm color. The printer has two separate trays: a 100-sheet tray for documents, and a separate 20-sheet bypass tray for 4 x 6-inch photos. The printer supports paper sizes up to legal size (8 x 14 inches) and can print borderless photos. It uses separate ink cartridges for each color, so you only replace the color that runs out.
Built-In Networking Lets Everyone Use the Printer
The printer has both wired and wireless networking built in, making it simple to set up the printer to be shared by everyone in your office or home. The built-in wireless supports 802.11b/g and features one-button wireless setup for simplicity. Security standards supported include SSID, WEP 64/128-bit, WPA-PSK, and WPA2-PSK. For those without wireless, there is also a 10/100 Base-TX Ethernet port.
Copy and Scan with the Same Device
The MFC-790CW lets you copy and scan as well as print from the same device. The stand-alone copier doesn't require a PC and can make both black-and-white and color copies at a speed of 22 cpm black and 20 cpm color. It can scale copies from 25 to 400 percent of the original, and it supports sorting and 2-in-1/4-in-1 copying. A 15-sheet automatic document feeder lets you scan and copy pages unattended.
The flatbed scanner has a maximum optical resolution of 1200 x 2400 dpi at 36-bit color depth for high-quality scans. It works with both Mac OS and Windows, and it includes Scansoft PaperPort v11 SE with OCR software for Windows and Presto! PageManager software for Mac.
Send and Receive Faxes Unattended
The high-speed Super G3 33.6K bps fax modem lets you send and receive black-and-white and color faxes at up to three seconds per page. A 15-sheet auto document feeder lets you send faxes unattended. In addition to functioning as a stand-alone fax, this unit also works as a PC fax.
Other handy features include a built-in telephone handset, which adds the convenience of a full duplex speakerphone, and a built-in digital answering machine that holds up to 29 minutes of messages.
The MFC-790CW measures 18.1 x 7.1 x 14.8 inches (WxHxD) and weighs 18.5 pounds. It is Energy Star certified and is backed by a one-year warranty.

It was either Canon, HP or Epson. So I first purchased the Epson Aristan 800. The first unit was defective with an error loop, so I replaced it with another. It's a nice printer overall with the added bonus of touchscreen, but the fax functions were poor, the paper tray was flimsy and it was a bit too large for where I wanted to put it. So I returned it, walked around the printer isles for an hour and came upon the Brother MFC-790cw. It had wifi, touchscreen, a phone, a real dial pad, a smaller footprint and a much cheaper price. So after using it for a week, i'm really happy with the purchase. The wifi software was very easy to setup, and I had no problem installing it in Windows beta 7 unlike the Epson Artisan 800. Receiving and sending faxes is easy as pie. Normal and glossy photo print qualities are very good. And the unit overall looks solidly built...Read more 30 of 30 people found the following review helpful: By Kee "-" (Usa) - See all my reviews This review is from: Brother MFC-790CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with Wide 4.2-Inch Touchscreen LCD Display and Wireless Interface (Office Product) Never before have a come across a printer like this, at such a low price. Brother has done it again, with their phenomenal line of office products. After witnessing the failure of not one, but three HP printers we decided to go with another brand. This unit features a great touch screen, easy to use fax machine, scanner (which lets you choose one of many places that the scanned image can be sent to). The other great feature that sold us on this printer was the fact that it features a built-in wireless care for printer sharing. No more USB cords or other unnecessary cords are needed. The setup for the wireless was a bit tricky at first, even for someone with college education in computer hardware. But we called Brother and they guided us over the phone and it was done!
Please consider this printer! You won't be sorry! 35 of 37 people found the following review helpful: By michaelbuddy "michaelbuddy" (STL, MO) - See all my reviews This review is from: Brother MFC-790CW Color Inkjet All-in-One with Wide 4.2-Inch Touchscreen LCD Display and Wireless Interface (Office Product) Just received the item and it appears to do what's promised, though I haven't done any photo printing yet, I think the photo print quality will be just fine, being that they included some small photo paper in the box. In my opinion, wi-fi is the only way to go for printers. USB is just another cable. I also needed a fax for the few times I get faxes every couple months and I chose this model because I didn't want the cordless phone on the higher model to get a dead battery or anything on me. I figured that this corded phone would be dead simple.
The software included helps interface with the printer including sending pc faxes out through to the printer. I'm excited to hook my other computers to it to share everything. I somewhat regret not getting the fancier cordless phone model, but it's not a big deal. To me, this unit having an answering machine is an extra bonus. I would have bought it without the answering machine, but I'm happy using it. Also has a speakerphone...Read more |
