Product Description
The MFC-820cw includes built-in wired and wireless 802.11b/g network as well as USB interfaces, a 2.5 flip-up color LCD display for ease of use as well as previewing and printing photos without a computer. All this in a unique, low-profile design that fits in any home or home/office. The MFC-820cw combines color ink jet printing (print resolutions up to 6000 x 1200 dpi on glossy paper, borderless photo printing and print speeds up to 20ppm black and 15ppm color), color copying, color scanning, color faxing (even preview your received faxes on the LCD before printing), PC fax and the PhotoCapture Center® feature.
Amazon.com Product Description
With a 2.5-inch flip-up color LCD display and support for wired or wireless network printing, the Brother MFC-820CW is a workhorse designed to make your work and leisure a lot easier. The unit has a convenient flatbed design that accommodates either single sheets or bound documents for color copying, faxing, or color scanning.

Print, fax, scan, copy, and print photos directly from a memory card with the MFC-820CW. It's got wireless networking, too! View larger.

Use the LCD display to preview your photos before you print them.
The maximum paper size is 8.5 x 14 inches, and there's a ten-page automatic document feeder for making quick multi-page copies. The copier supports reduction and enlargement of documents from 25 to 400 percent, and with print and copy speeds of up to 20 pages per minute, the MFC-820CW is designed to keep up with busy offices.

Meanwhile, outstanding resolution of up to 6000 x 1200 dpi allows you to print sharp photos on glossy paper, and borderless photo printing is supported, too. You can preview your photos and faxes on the 2.5-inch LCD before printing, so you know exactly what you're printing ahead of time. The MFC-820CW's "PhotoCapture" capability features an integrated media drive that lets you print directly from a memory card. Supported card formats include CompactFlash, SmartMedia, Memory Stick and Memory Stick Pro, xD-Picture Card, MultiMediaCard, and Secure Digital. You can even scan directly to a memory card, and as with photo printing, there's no PC required for copying and faxing.

And speaking of faxing, the MFC-820CW's 16 MB of built-in memory lets you store up to 480 pages in memory before you even dial a number. Printing is enhanced by a four-cartridge ink system that allows you to replace just the colors and inks that you're running low on.

Last but not least, the MFC-820CW features versatile networking capabilities that allow you to share the unit among multiple computers on your home or office network. Print, scan, fax, and access the unit's PhotoCapture features via a wired or wireless network. The unit supports 802.11 b/g networking so you can place it anywhere and use it wire-free. A USB 2.0 connection is also provided for directly connecting the unit to a computer. PC and Mac printer and scanning drivers are included, and the latest updates are available from Brother.com. Brother provides a one-year warranty, covering parts and service.

5.0 out of 5 stars I'm so in love, May 28, 2006

Ever been in love with a product? So proud of your purchase you'll sit there and stare it for seemingly hours? That's how I feel about my Brother 820CW MFC. I keep walking in my office to stare at it.

First let me say the dimensions are pleasantly small. It's about 14x14 with the output paper tray stowed, and about 14x18 with the paper tray extended. It's not very tall either. Compared to the behemoth dimensions of my old HP K80, it seems tiny. It's also very stylishly designed.

I knew I needed a network printer, because I moved my server to another location. I could have gone for a wired version, but I thought, why not prepare for the future? I might want to stick my router in a closet some day. This thing could be sitting ANYWHERE and function as a printer. I'm so glad I sprung for the wireless -- I have it set up wireless now, 128-bit WEP, and it's worked flawlessly so far. I've printed and scanned some huge documents with no problems...Read more

5.0 out of 5 stars Amazing small Printer, September 1, 2006

I looked around for all the different products out there and somehow decided on this on. There are not many reviews out there but the features of the machine convinced me that this would be a nice choice.

With that said, this printer is an amazing machine. I bought it here at Amazon which is cheapest compared to everywhere else.

With all the features like, color screen, In built wireless interface, All color functionality, Media card reader, this is a winner. Finish of the product may not be top of the line but it works very well. Setup is easy, wireless setup was a breeze(I used the wep key as well) and setup 2 of my laptops to use the printer. Print speed may be a little slow but didn't bother me.
On top of that, it is compact and Ink is soooo cheaper than HP and canon.
I would highly recommend it for Home use or a small personal office.

3.0 out of 5 stars Weak Wireless, October 20, 2006

I like the machine as an all-in-one, but I am certainly disappointed with the wireless connectivity. My MFC-820CW is about 8 feet from my wireless hub, unobstructed. None of the other four computers in my home, of varying ages, have any problem connecting with it. But the MFC-820CW cannot seem to maintain a connection for more than about one minute - and after losing the connection, it seems to just give up.

My routine now is to print a document, and then go and unplug the printer and plug it back in. That generally wakes up the wireless connection and allows the printing to proceed, albeit slowly. I may switch to USB, although at least this way I don't have to actually bring the computer to the printer ;-)

Anyway, overall I love the form-factor, and for the rest of the limited use I have put it to I am quite satisfied. I don't like the seemingly-non-detachable advertising stickers which come on top of the actual machine, but perhaps I just haven't tried hard...Read more
