Usually I'd have bought this MFC from Amazon. However due to a sale it was less expensive to purchase at my local box store. My cost was under $70 for the unit, and it was well worth it.
This is a network MFC, and can connect as wired or wireless to a home or small business network. There is bundled software for Mac and PC operating systems. I have been able to install and get full functionality with Windows 7, Windows Vista, Windows XP PC's and MAC laptops. If you don't wish to run this as a network MFC, it will also work well as a USB MFC attached directly to a PC.
Bundled with this unit is a free copy and license for Paperport 11. Paperport helps to organize scanned documents. It isn't fantastic software, but it is nice to have bundled with this printer. Also included is the Brother control center, which is software unique to Brother that helps control the MFC functions (such as scan a picture, or use OCR to process a document). For Mac's Presto PageManage is...Read more

Compact but has several issues...,
September 18, 2010 This review is from: Brother MFCJ615w All-in-One Inkjet Printer (Office Product)
I bought this machine few days ago. Today is the first time I used it extensively (e.g. printing documents, photos, scanning, copying, faxing, etc.)
PROS: Prints pretty good on regular documents and photos. Sends faxes and copies documents fairly well. Size fits my small apartment and computer desk. The wireless capability is pretty helpful; I can print documents from my laptop and desktop remotely pretty well.
CONS: It doesn't scan documents/files to PDF files (my big disappointment...my old Cannon scanner did)...it only scans documents to JPEG and OCR formats. I have also discovered that the ORC format doesn't work, which is supposed to scan documents to text (TXT) format (I have to figure out how the OCR format works). Scan capability of this machine is pretty limited. I also tried to print photos using different papers (e.g. Cannon, HP) and the machine didn't print the photos but rather gave me an error message that I have put wrong papers. This is specially...Read more

The Brother MFCJ615W is a great value. I was moving to a seasonal home and decided I had better have a printer for my laptop. A copier was also needed occasionally. I could go down the street to fax. I may need a scanner every other week. I then realized that I could get all these machines for the price of a printer only. I have used all the functions multiple times. It is better than the 3 different machines I have at home base to do the same jobs. So far it has not been an ink hog. It does not use color to print Black type as other Brother machines do.
Very satisfied with price and functionality so far.
