Comment: I like Canon equipment and this fax looked good. However, it is not programable for my needs. I just sent it back to Amazon. Fortunately returning is easy. If you attach an answering machine, your message is restricted to 15 seconds. I needed much more time as I run a business and need to leave more details. If you set it up as ''tel/fax", it will only allow two rings before the fax kicks in. I need at least 6 rings so that my answering machine has time to activate. If you set it up as "manual", you have to answer the phone and then allow the person to send a fax. Too clumsy and time consuming for my needs. If you set it up as "fax only", you need a dedicated fax line. My old Panasonic just died and I have to replace it. I would not recommend this fax unless you like aggravation.

Summary: Not an easy machine to set up or use 2010-04-04
Comment: Wish I had purchased a different fax machine. This one, while it seems to work OK, is very difficult to set up and more difficult to use. Its all plastic and looks cheap.

Summary: Great machine for the money 2010-03-17
Comment: I've only used it once but it seems easy to use. I bought it for home use and it's definately faster than my 4-in-one printer I was using. It seems to scan all the pages first and then tries to fax them. The only con I see is the cheap plastic is made out of but you can't really tell by looking at it. It's a perfect fax machine for light users like me.

Summary: Good value! 2010-03-16
Comment: Very happy with this little fax machine--great value, nice looking faxes, good speed, and CHEAP inkjet. My only complaint is wish it had a tray to catch incoming faxes and sent fax pages. I have the fax machine sitting on a shelf and I either have to catch the pages as they come out or retrieve them off the floor. Probably would be a non-issue on a wide shelf or table.

Summary: how to make a simple product impossible to use. 2010-03-06
Comment: Before I bought a new fax machine I read all the reviews here. I wanted a simple fax machine, having few requirements in a home machine. I didn't plan to hook it up to my computer, so the lack of Mac OS drivers didn't concern me even though every other manufacturer has Mac support. The JP 210P seemed to fit the bill. I set it up and proceeded to read the instruction manual to adjust the settings.
The nightmare began....
The instruction manual is the most obtuse I have ever encountered-and I have 30 yrs expreience in technology consulting and have seen some doozies. There is no way to turn off the ringer without about 20 steps using the online menu. No simple mute button! After I thought I had it set up, the phone rang and I answered it on a different extension. 20 seconds later the fax phone rang, sent a scretching faxtone into my ear and could only be stopped by truning the fax machine off. After more consulting of the manual, of which half the instruction examples did not match the actual menu I was trying to change, I gave up and called tech support. The technician at Cannon was very pleasant and tried hard to help me correct this situation, but was just as confused as I was. He finally asked a supervisor for help. The conclusion: this model will not work in fax/phone auto mode if there is an extension phone on the same line. Only solution is to set for manual mode. Who designs these things for Cannon? What planet are they from? If I coud give this 0 stars I would. The Print quality is good, but if you need a machine that works on anything but a dedicated line and want to be able to recieve faxes unattended, look elsewhere.
I had simple needs, but this machine is for masochists who enjoy being frustrated. If it weren't such a hassel, I woud return this in a heartbeat. Cannon, I will stear clear of your products in the future.
