Comment: I purchased this after my HP all-in-one printer finally gave out after 2 decades. I am so sorry that I purchased a Dell computer & printer.
The printer is constantly giving error messages and when it works, it prints about 1/80 of what my old printer did before it needs a new ink cartridge. And yes, I mean a NEW ink cartridge because based on my experience, as well as those I've heard about from others (google for other reviews!), it seems that Dell rigs their ink cartridges to not work after 1 or 2 refills.
Dell is by far THE WORST company I have ever had to deal with. As an added note, I'll let people know that I paid $1,800 for a notebook, Dell sent me one with a defective "corrupted" harddrive. After 3 weeks of fighting over the phone, they agreed to take it back to fix it but instead, mailed me a REFURBISHED harddrive because "that's (their) policy," period. Lo & behold, the refurbished computer was ALSO defective, albeit in a different way. I called for help booting it up and I was told that I'd have to pay $250+ for the privilege of asking 3 questions about the computer I just paid $1800 for!?! There's no such thing as free assistance from Dell, even if they send you a defective computer. I refused and demanded that someone help me fix the broken computer as I had never even used it, it was sent to me with a corrupted harddrive. The agent told me to "have a nice evening" and hung up on me. By the way, while I was holding on to speak to someone, a recording told me that if I want to speak to someone in North America, I could pay $50 extra.
Ask around, Dell = AGGRAVATION & FRUSTRATION

Summary: You get what you pay for 2010-03-29
Comment: For the price, this is a great product. Definitely would not use it to print photos or anything you would expect high resolution/quality for, but a worthy printer to have if you just need something that prints, copies, and scans decent color and black/white documents. It does drink a lot of ink, but I only print when I absolutely need to. I wouldn't buy this if you are a student expecting to print 40 page articles every other day or a sole proprietor hoping to print out 10 invoices per day. It is definitely not a good product if you are planning to print that frequently. But for the occasional print (taxes, professional letters, resume, etc.), it's a good product for the price.

Summary: This printer goes through ink like a Hummer goes through gas. 2010-03-03
Comment: Not only that the ink is far too expensive, but the print quality is horrible. On its normal setting, it streaks every other line. Best quality will give you a product that is acceptable, but the setting will go through your already small supply of ink twice as fast.

Summary: Replacing black ink too expensive 2010-01-28
Comment: My last Dell printer I would go through one black ink cartridge every 6 months plus. With this one its down to less than two months before I need a new black ink. This makes it a very expensive printer. They practically give away the printer then gouge you when they sell you ink. It should be illegal.

Summary: Ink is too expensive for this "cheaply" priced printer 2009-09-02
Comment: It looks like a good deal, but I can't find any generic ink cartridges that will work with it, which means if you buy it you're left paying full price for "official" ink from Dell--and that means paying $20 a cartridge every. single. time.
With even moderate use, the total ownership cost of a printer like this will go through the roof after just one year.
