I purchased this product for a friend of mine for Christmas. The printer ran out of cyan ink, but that should have been OK as my friend wanted to print a text document which should only use black ink. We found that everytime we tried to print we got an out of ink warning and the document would not print. We tried setting the printer to black and white only. WE JUST KEPT GETTING A WINDOW TO ALLOW US TO ORDER INK FROM EPSON.

As this document was important we called Epson support (who were quick to take our call). We were informed that if one of the color ink cartridges is empty, the printer will not print even if the document does not need colored ink and that the printer connot be set to B&W mode while a color cartridges is empty. Funny though if the black cartridge is empty support told use, the printer will print a B&W document using its color cartidges. I suppose this is so you can waste all your ink, and get that little pop-up window offering to sell you ink directly...Read more

2.0 out of 5 stars Slooooooow, March 4, 2010

This printer does reasonably good photos, but it is the slowest printer I have ever used--five or six times slower for pictures and 10x slower for documents than my Canon one. It takes as long to print a typed page on standard quality as most printers do to print a photo on high quality. I literally just sat here for three minutes waiting for it to print two typed pages. Even startup is slow, and you have to wait quite a while to use it after turning it on. Setup was also rather difficult. I now see why they were selling them for $20. It was barely worth the price.

I did not buy this printer from Amazon, so this is just a review of the horrible machine itself. You know I love you, Amazon.

This printer is slow, loud, somehow intermittently decides its going to print my documents crooked, and, like a previous reviewer said, freaks out about one empty ink cartridge (usually black) until you replace it, even though its perfectly capable of making black out of the other color inks. More recently, mine decided it would only print legible documents if I have it on the "Text and Photo" setting. Likewise when I make a copy of a text document on the scanner, it must be a "color copy" for the printer to actually succeed in printing all the words.

If, like me, you're really only considering this printer because its relatively cheap, please don't waste your money on it and go for something slightly better that will actually work. I can't wait until I have the opportunity to buy a better printer and take this Epson out back to end its...Read more
