Summary: HP3180 is a good door stop! 2010-02-06
Comment: This FAX is so noisy I've had to get up in the middle of the night and unplug it. It may start it's gear eating and cycling exercise before 3:30 in the morning but since I haven't set the time of day, it must just do this to annoy me. It really does sound like it is chewing itself up and as a result, I doubt that it will last much longer. Fortunately it wasn't that expensive but this HP FAX will not be replaced with another HP product.

Summary: Good fax, but trouble finding power cord. 2010-02-06
Comment: It was a great fax until I misplaced the power cord. I have been completely unable to find a replacement cord thru HP or any other source online. So I am now unable to use it. Don't misplace your power cord.
Addendum - I was able to buy a new power cord and power supply online for about $20. Now I notice that it lacks a power button. So this good for a user who wants a fax on all the time. It is not ideal for the home user who occasionally sends and receives a fax.

Summary: Good fax for the price 2009-09-17
Comment: Got this as a replacement for a much older fax. First time I hooked it up, I kept getting paper jam error messages even though I hadn't yet put any paper in the input tray. I disconnected it from the power source and phone line and wondered what kind of lemon I'd bought for our department. A couple of days later, I hooked it back up and it went through all the start-up without a hitch. It works fine and is well worth the price I paid. The only drawback is the input tray doesn't hold much paper.

Summary: A real ink hog 2009-08-26
Comment: Like the fact that the 3180 is relatively compact. The faxes come through very crisp and clean. However, I am using one black cartridge a week...that has become very costly. HP touts that you should be able to get 120 faxes/copies per cartridge. Don't believe it! You can adjust the volume for incoming faxes but not outgoing. The outgoing volume is so loud, one cannot be in the same room as the machine. So, $78 is a good price for the unit, but the $780 per year for ink is not acceptable.
