Approximately one month ago, I purchased the 6500A plus. Installation was straightforward, and it appeared to operate well. One flaw quickly became apparent, however: whenever the printer sat idle for more than a few minutes, it would subsequently not print. Scouring the available troubleshooting guides in its software, I came across a piece of advice that suggested I turn the printer off, then on again. That worked, except printing documents now required 1) pressing the power button to deactivate sleep mode 2) pressing it once more to turn it off 3) pressing it again to turn the printer on. Quickly, this process became annoying and I looked up HP's customer service # online. Thus began a two hour conversation with one of their technical support reps.

The customer service employee I spoke to sounded foreign (later found out he was in the Phillippines) but had a fairly good command of English. However, he misstated a couple of things, and only as I was about to hang up...Read more

Hi, *latest update from 05/04/2011, problems with printing, occured several times, stayed unsolved. Got a replacement printer finally! Couple of issues with the software*

I really like the printer so far.

Unpacking that thing took some time, since it was wrapped in many layers, so that every glossy plastic was pretty much covered.
Setting the printer up was really easy, the touchscreen display tells you what to do, even with videos! That was amazing! So no big deal with that part of the installation, only took some time, appr. 20 mins.
Setting up the WIRELESS connection left me with 2 different impressions! Installing and connecting on my Win7 laptop was straight forward and easy, not so much on my wife's WinXP SP3 laptop. It just couldn't find the printer, USB cable connection worked fine though. A TOOL from the HP HOMEPAGE worked then finally. Found it in the support center. Didn't work on the first sttempt, but after a reboot of the laptop and the...Read more

Customer review from the Amazon Vine™ Program (What's this?)
I recently have had the pleasure of installing and using this new printer from HP.

Out of the box, this printer is a bit larger than I expected. It has trays, the double-sided print attachment, and feeders that make the size physically a bit larger than my last home desktop printer.

Setup out-of-the-box was ok but has room for improvement, at least based on my experience. The reason this product gets 4 stars instead of 5 is that despite being wireless, I simply could not get the unit to connect to my machine without using the USB cable. I setup the printer according to the instructions, and then was able to connect to my home network's router. I entered my password, and presto, the printer said it was connected. However, after multiple attempts at installing the included software, rebooting both the printer and my home machine, I just couldn't get it to connect wirelessly. FYI, my home machine runs Vista 64 bit.

I then decided to try to setup my...Read more
