Summary: My Experience with the Kodak Easyshare 5500 printer 2010-07-22
Comment: I have owned this printer for two years and can easily say I have never experienced this many problems with any printer I have owned or experienced in my 13 years of working in I/T support. First the print head had to be replaced shortly after I got the printer. Now after two years and numerous support issues I am told the printer needs to be replaced. Now this printer has actually seen very little use. After finding and scanning and emailing my original receipt, I got the final word from Supervisor Deepak D. below that after all the problems beginning when the printer was in warranty the Kodak policy is to give you 30% off a new Kodak printer because now the printer is out of warranty....

Now I owned a Lexmark printer for years and never had one issue with it. I decided I would upgrade and save money on ink and buy the Kodak printer... This has turned out to be a big mistake, I spent way to much time nursing this printer and its problems for two years and don't believe I saved any money on ink.... Just my experience as a former Kodak printer owner....

Summary: Don't waste your money! 2010-07-21
Comment: I have had this printer for a little over a year, spend around $200. The main reason for purchasing an "all in one" printer was the convince of scanning and e-mailing documents. Woke up this morning with some very important documents I had to scan and e-mail out, and my scanner stopped working. Not happy! Again I have only had this printer a little over a year! What a waste of money!! Off to purchase a new machine, will not be a Kodak.

Summary: Own two Kodak Printers and LOVE them!! Professional Photographer / Graphic Designer 2010-06-17
Comment: As stated in the title, I am a professional photographer and graphic designer. I print photo business cards on my two Kodaks (3250 & older ESP3) that rival anything you can get from a professional printer. Plus, the convenience allows me to change the design every day if I wish.

The ink is CHEAP! And it lasts a long time, despite what others say. I shot a Marine Corps Ball two years in a row with these two printers on a table going the whole night. I watched 40 full color 8x10s on Kodak Professional Inkjet Paper come out before having to replace a color cartridge.

I wrote a 165 page novel and printed 12 copies of it for proofreaders before having to replace the black ink.

I would definitely buy a Kodak printer again. I print almost every day on these things. Sometimes, I'm printing for hours straight and, at events, I'm printing for a whole evening if I'm giving customers take home quick prints. Heck, the take home prints look better than the ones that come out of the One Hour Photo lab I've worked in for 7 years.

These printers are a Godsend. Kodak said they would put one hour labs out of business with these printers and I can see it happening if:

They make the printers print using only a black cartridge (if you run out of color, you have to replace it, even if you are only printing in black. You can't blame them! With ink this cheap, they want you to buy it! While it's a little annoying, it's a small price to pay for quick, convenient, beautiful prints.)

They make the firmware a little more user friendly. Not as user friendly as their point and shoot cameras are, that's for sure. But once again, a SMALL price to pay.

Sure it's a little noisy. It's not a Mack truck. And is sure as heck isn't as loud as the Minolta color laser, Epson all in one, HP all in one and Canon i series (two of them) printers I've had.

I had a printhead go out. Called Kodak and in three days I had a replacement. They were all very friendly. Their tech support (online chat and phone tech support) are top notch. Some people complain about how the operators aren't from America. Quit being a Nationalist jerkface and deal with the fact that people all around the world have to have a job. The people who walked me through tech support when I called tonight (I screwed up a download and had to reinstall my firmware) were polite and patient and, while they had a bit of an accent, were easy to understand. I dealt with three different men through tech support and was so happy with my experience, I really should have told their supervisor what a great job they did. I was such an idiot and had to be walked through everything and never once did they sound the least bit impatient with me. Lord knows I've been ruder to people in my workplace and I'm from America.

Have a great day and buy a Kodak printer!

Summary: Printheads don't last long, but prints great 2010-06-12
Comment: I bought my first 5500 over two years ago when they first came out to save ink. Kodak replaced the printhead free about three times in year 1. Year two has been better until now when another print head was needed. Again they ship free in 2-3 days. In the meantime we bought two others for the office. You can expect to replace the printhead about every six months on average. The Kodak tech said not to keep extras on hand because of a shelf life issue, so you will be unable to copy for a few days until the new one arrives

Even with this problem I'd still stick with it because it does make excellent prints, and cut our ink bill in half. We've had no problem with the scan or fax mode either. It's still nice to have a real fax machine available., otherwise documents have to be scanned into the computer first.

Coupled with a MAC , which gives true color, it would be hard to beat.

Summary: Do not buy 2010-04-29
Comment: I purchased a Kodak all-in-one 5500 2 years and 4 months ago. After going through three print heads in that amount of time I had about had it. The hard to understand help desk man ran me through all the troubleshooting hoops which I had run myself so darn many times before. I knew exactly what was wrong... After the last print head crapped out I had even set an alarm for every two weeks to run the deep clean to keep the print head in good condition (no use.) He then gave me the options of now of *buying* a new print head (that I am sure would die in less than a year) or getting a discount to *buy* a new Kodak printer (which the "help" desk could not tell me if they had fixed the print head issues with.) no spank you!
I did some internet research and bought me a Canon Pixma. Have only heard good things about it.

don't go here. there be monsters.
