Issues with Lexmark x2580,

My Lexmark X2580 was a "special" purchased with a computer at Circuit City. The operator's manual states that the #34 and #35 cartidges will fit this model. WARNING! THEY DO NOT WORK. Lexmark rep told me that this model was made to use only #2 and #3 b/c Circuit City wanted to increase their ink cartridge sales. So, the only place you can buy #2 and #3 is, you guessed it: Circuit City and Lexmark. Pretty raw deal, I'd say.

It was free with the computer I bought from Circuit City. It has potential, but it uses a lot of ink. The ink is proprietary and pricey. The ink cartridges that the user manual states are replacement cartridges for the X2580, are not accepted by the printer. I spent $80.00 locally to find out that only Circuit City sells the appropriate cartridges. If I had known that the ink situation was so monopolized, the Lexmark would still be at the store and I would have a printer that provided more economical printing capabilities.

The printer itself is very nice. However, it is hitting the landfill as soon as the ink runs out. Why? Circuit City has rigged this so you HAVE to buy ink from them. The cartridges are about 20 dollars each and the thing doesn't come with black so you're screwed from the start. Do NOT let them get away with this! Don't take this printer for free and, for god's sake, don't buy it!
