This all-in-one was cheaper than a new black ink cartridge for my other Epson printer so I bought it. I only use the printer to print black. I always choose the "black ink only" option when printing. The black cartridge that it came with printed about twenty-five pages and then was empty. I bought a new cartridge which lasted about 125 pages. I noticed the level of the colored cartridges were steadily going down even though I was printing in "black" only. After going through four black cartridges, one of the color cartridge is empty and the whole printer shuts down. It will not run until I buy new color cartridges even though I only print in black. The printer is clearly designed and priced to sell rather expensive, non-refillable ink cartridges.

Mechanically, the printer is fine and it is a decent scanner. But, I feel like I have been trapped in a cartridge buying scam by Epson.

I have been using the NX125 for 3 days now. I can tell you I am not happy with it at all. True as another wrote, it does not come with the USB cable, but that is not an issue for me, so that has nothing to do with my review. Here it is in a nutshell. Printing is not up to par, the black ink typewritten stuff is OK, so-so, but not great. The scanner is good, so definitely worth the price of $30 for a scanner. Hence the two stars, if only a scanner, then 5 stars for the scanner. The printing is where the problem is. The quality is crappy with any posters, pictures, etc. I print a lot of posters this time of year to set up my classroom for the fall. I have never seen such poor quality. I tried different settings, no help. Same posters and printouts on my HP Officejet 6000, crisp, clean, superb. So, I am not that picky. This printer seemed like a good value for the low price, but it goes through ink like crazy. The cartridges it comes with run out after very few pages, and when you buy the standard cartridges, they also go really quickly. I was shocked at how fast it runs out of ink. I'm a grad student who prints articles with the economy setting and only in black ink, but I am on my third cartridge after only a month and a half. I will be buying a different printer and keeping this one for the scanner.
