Meanwhile, the phone/fax features vary from caller ID compatibility (requires phone company subscription)--which includes a two-line, 16-character display so you can see who's calling before answering--to a telephone directory navigator with up to 80 entries. Users can even display and print a list of caller ID activity.

The KX-FHD331 also lets you connect an external answering device so you can receive voice and fax messages on a single phone line. Thanks to the automatic fax/phone switching, the unit actually distinguishes between fax and voice calls, eliminating the need for an extra phone line. And users should have no problem deciphering the menu, as the navigator key lets you easily access the phone directory, dialer, and other menu operations. It's also simple to program the unit when you first open the box.

Additional features include a 50-sheet paper capacity, a 28-page memory for when you run out of paper, an automatic document feeder for broadcast faxing, standard/fine/super-fine/photo resolution, distinctive ring detection, and a quick scan option for faster transmission and receiving.
