Ricoh Aficio SP C231SF Color All-In-One Laser Printer (406442)

Bought this 7 months ago, specifically to print duplex photo/graphic greeting cards, and daily reports of about 15 pages on 20# paper. Both have been total heartaches.

The multipurpose sheet feeder can handle 1 sheet at a time, which is ok, however, there are no "real" paper guides. The 3/4" guides are completely inadequate to keep the paper loading straight. Therefore the paper ALWAYS gets pulled in and randomly turned a bit then sometimes jams. Ricoh doesn't offer any other paper tray or sheet feeder guides, nor is there a place to attach one.

The paper tray frequently will "jam" also. What is happening is the paper feeds about .5" then stops. So we pull the tray out, fix the sheet... but then have to open and close all the doors to get the Jam notice to clear.

If Ricoh would do some real engineering on the tray and consider what people need, the rest of the multipurpose printer would score very high.

For a non-techie, the learning curve on this combo is very steep. We've had it now for just under 2 months and we are still stuggling just a bit. It seems like it will do what it was advertised to do.

We have had to have Ricoh out to correct a copy problem - a connector ribbon was jared out of position during shipment and finally disconnedted causing the copy function to become inoperable. It was covered by warranty. The tech service people at Ricoh are very helpful.

The copier will not duplex two sided originals.

Oh, the toner is a bit pricy. Black was $117 through Amazon. You'll need to check with Ricoh for the correct toner as the printer tech data does not list it.

We are light usage (animal hospital) mostly printing color, low per page word/image density. Cost has been reasonable on per page basis and print quality fairly good (don't do much photo/photo paper printing), less than $.03/page. Has been reliable for general printing. Anything other than std 8/12x 11 is potentially problematic. Have to custom size to print 4 1/2 x 9 envelopes then printer will jam occasionally.

UI of machine is poor and user manuals are poorly written.

1st service call has taken 3 business days to get a repair technician out to service the machine (and they know we're down and dependent on the machine!).
