Watch out! Known Networking Problem,
February 3, 2011 B. Fernald (Los Angeles, CA) - See all my reviews
This review is from: Xerox Phaser 8560MFP/D - Multifunction ( fax / copier / printer / scanner ) - color - solid ink - copying (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 30 ppm (color) - printing (up to): 30 ppm (mono) / 30 ppm (color) - 625 sheets - 33.6 Kbps - USB, 10/100 Base-TX (Electronics)
I've never given a one star review, but as a result of our experience with this product, I'm afraid it's necessary. The printer does print beautiful color. However, we also use it for scanning, and I would assume like most other users have it networked in our office. Unfortunately, the printer constantly loses its IP address, forcing a full reset. After numerous calls to tech support, a Level 2 technician finally confessed that this is a known issue with this model and that they are 'working on it.' In this day and age, how do you sell a multi-function printer/scanner/copier that does not reliably connect to a network?! We also have an HP printer in the office, which is considerably more reliable and never drops the IP address. Come on Xerox! But for this issue, Xerox has put out a pretty good product. Unfortunately, the benefits are destroyed by the networking problem. If not remedied soon, I will demand a full refund and look into an HP.

I have acquired the 8560MFP through the XEROX FREE COLOR Printer program. This requires purchase of solid ink through Xerox. While the solid ink is very convenient and easy to change, the ink life does not seem to meet the stats of Xerox. For the total cost of printing 11,000 pages in about 2 months, I have already spent about $900.00 in supplies. Within two weeks a technician had to come in to check out why there was shadow ink on other parts of the page where nothing was supposed to print. At that time he already replaced the maintenance Kit. He used about 1/4 of a ream of my paper for cleaning. Since then I have already had to replace the maitenance Kit once again, with an extended maintenance kit. Being on the 3rd kit I am already beginning to see double printing, the same words printing elsewhere on the page.
I have the printer on a network. On 3 occasions, when no one was printing a job, the printer began printing on its own, 2 to 3 lines per page of any imagineable...Read more

We bought the 8560 mfp/d 31 months ago. We have put 120,000 copies on it. We decided not to buy a service contract or extended warranty which was a mistake. We printed 100,000 copies without a service call. Then it started to break down. Since then, we have had 3 service calls. Finally, just recently, we needed to change the printhead for $1,000 and decided it wasn't worth it for a $1,600 machine. There is still a lot of life left in the machine, and we hope to get some money on a trade in.
Even despite the recent service costs, this has been a good machine for us. Total costs have worked out to .045/copy, a reasonable price for a color machine.
This was our first mfp color machine. We really enjoyed the various functions compared with the previous analog B&W machine.
