Using thermal ink-jet technology, the 490cx provides maximum printing resolution of 1,200 x 1,200 dpi and print speeds of 10 ppm in black, 5 ppm in color, delivering photo-quality color images and sharp black text. High-quality black text brings a professional look to résumés, reports, and presentations, plus you can print on all the papers you expect, including cover/card stock, legal- and letter-size paper, envelopes, labels, and transparencies.
Copy resolution is a clean 600 x 600 dpi with enlargement and reduction options of 25 to 200 percent in 1 percent increments. Make up to 99 copies at one time, with an output tray that holds 50 sheets. With the press of a button you can make scans and edit all kinds of projects. The flatbed scanner allows scanning of books and magazines at 300 x 600 dpi optical resolution. The practical OCR (optical character recognition) software for scanning text to speed editing is included. When using the scan or copy features there is no need to start up your PC.
With hands-free faxing capabilities and up to 200-page memory for one-touch dialing, clear transmission is an expected bonus. Added conveniences include group dialing of up to 50 numbers at transmission speeds of 6 seconds per page. Drop in a document of 30 pages and go about your work while the Workcentre 490cx delivers. All i want to say is get it, get it get it. If you're looking for a multifunction get it. Its faster (10 ppm black, 5ppm color) than all of them (except the HP T65 11ppm black 8.5 ppm color). It does two sided printing @ 1200x1200 dpi, color copies, 200 page fax memory, 2.5 mbs of memory, Pagis Pro 2.0 with Mgi PhotoSuite and Textbridge Pro. Its got everything and does everthing, Color Printing, Color Copying, Color PC faxing, Color Scanning. Not to mention its a xerox. It works all day and all night with no hassles. Just get it and don't get anything else. You'll be unhappy if you spend more for less or spend less for less. Unlike many of its competitors' products, Xerox really excels in paper handling. For example, the FAX function will scan a thirty-page document into memory without jamming, then dial and send the FAX (similar to its more expensive dedicated FAX machines but at a fraction of the cost). On a purely aesthetic level, the machine is attractive and well-designed. For a home/small office, this machine is a great value. Highly recommended. For this purpose, it is an incredibly reliable machine. It is perfect in situations where no one is available to attend to the machine while it is receiving. The sheet feeder is virtually flawless, unlike many HP machines I have heard about and used. The printer functions appear to work reasonably well also. The one complaint I have is that the replacement ink cartridges are rather pricey. |
