I print contracts, send/recieve many FAXes, require legal size paper handling and needed a good copier that can handle 40-60 pages in the auto-feed tray. I also wanted two paper trays that could hold a lot of paper. I tried one of the lower end HP (7100?something) and it was .. let's just say a bad experience.
In a nutshell, this multi feature product seems to work well for what I need. If you run a home business, put it away from you because it's warm until it goes into energy-save mode. You can program the time-out period, so that's cool. It's also loud when printing, so make sure you aren't bothering anyone when working from home at night or in the morning. The scanning software isn't very good. it comes with the PaperPort program as well as OmniPage - both programs I haven't used before. The scanning requires that you place the document in the auto-feeder tray and not on the glass itself. I agree with the previous reviewer that the scanning function should be improved. In addition to what he mentioned, if you have a small network, you cannot use the USB scan as it is not hooked directly to a computer. However, I was (eventually) able to configure the unit on my network so that I could basically e-mail documents to myself in PDF. Not the most convenient, but very doable once you get used to it. Doesn't take me much longer than a USB scan would. I wanted this PDF capacity, in addition to larger volume, having graduated from an HP all-in-one at my small office. The machine does volume with no major problems. The only caveat is that you will have jams in the machine, like call copiers, especially if you use paper more than PDF's or faxing. I get about 2 jams a year, which makes the maintenance contract worthwhile ($299/yr). Maintenance is VERY fast with the contract (recently less than two hours). Printer drivers...Read more 1 of 2 people found the following review helpful: This review is from: Xerox WorkCentre M20I Multifunction Printer (Office Product) I have had this machine in my office for a couple of years now, and I am hoping to be able to afford a replacement now. This machine has a number of poorly constructed components. My biggest frustration has been the Fuser, which has frequently jammed up since the first six months we had the machine, and requires unscrewing in order to remove the jammed paper. This machine was not what I expected for the price paid. |
